ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team opened its 2023-24 campaign with a 4-2 win over Missouri Valley on Saturday at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
The Tritons (1-0) won all three doubles matches to win the opening point of the match.
Juan Vigil and
Raphael Kerndl teamed up at number one doubles for a 6-1 win.
Joshua Mackey and
Jose Mayorga followed it up with a 6-2 win in the second doubles contest and
AJ Burrows and
Tanin Ramnath picked up a 6-0 win in the final doubles contest.
The Vikings (0-1) won the first two singles contest to take a 2-1 lead heading into the final four singles contests. Kerndl defeated Francesco Caratti 6-0, 6-2 to tie the match for UMSL at 2-2. Mackey followed with a straight set win over Deschamps 6-3, 6-1 and then Ramnath clinched it with a three-set win in the number five singles contest 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. The final singles match was unfinished.
The Tritons return to the courts on Friday, September 15 competing in the Quincy Invitational starting at 1 p.m.
