ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team opened its 2023-24 season with a 7-0 win over Missouri Valley on Saturday at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
The Tritons (1-0) won all nine matches contested with
Maja Lietzau,
Hannah Tse,
Anna Favaron,
Sasha Lopez,
Lauren Sweeney and
Emma Bridges each going 2-0.
UMSL won all three doubles matches to take the opening point of the match. Lietzau and Tse beat Queralt Carbo and Brown 6-1 at number one doubles. Favaron and Lopez handed Anais Gerard and Olvera a 6-0 defeat and Bridges and Sweeney defeated Milene Marciniuk and Moreno 6-1.
Lietzau defeated Carbo in three sets in the number one singles contests 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, Tse beat Marciniuk in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, Favaron swept Brown 6-2, 6-2, Lopez defeated Olvera 6-0, 6-1, Sweeney beat Gasol 6-4, 6-0 and Bridges knocked off Gerard 6-3, 6-1.
The Tritons return to the courts on Friday, September 21 at the SIU Edwardsville Invitational.
