ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's and women's swimming teams opened their 2023-24 season winning nine events in its dual against Saint Louis at the Simon Rec Center on Saturday afternoon. The men fell to the Billikens 131.5-86.5 and the women lost 145-73.
On the men's side, the Tritons won five events and were led by
Guillem Masjuan Roca and
Conley Savage with two event wins each.
Hendrik Bechtel picked up the other event win.
Masjuan Roca picked up his first event win in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.28 and finished over a second ahead of SLU's Logan Townsend. Masjuan Roca came back later in the meet to win the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 52.07.
Savage won the 400-yard individual medley and the 100-yard fly. UMSL went 1-2-3 in the 100 fly with Savage recording the winning time of 4:08.56 while
Aaron Wicklund and
Harrison Miller finished second and third with times of 4:12.65 and 4:16.30 respectively.
Savage and
Ethan Boehle went 1-2 in the 100 fly with times of 50.42 seconds and 52.81 seconds.
Bechtel won the 1,000 free in a time of 9:48.88 defeating SLU's Franklin Liu by a second and a half.
The women got off to a great start as its team of
Ella Lantz,
Zara Konstapel,
Audrey Lantz and
Ava Boehning won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:46.95.
Justice Beard won the 1,000 free in a time of 10:25.71 and the 500 free with a time of 5:07.29.
Konstapel was the winner in the 100 breast by over two seconds in a time of 1:06.60.
The Tritons are back in action on Friday (Oct. 13) as they travel down to Arkadelphia, Ark., to take on Henderson State at 5 p.m.
