Holloman’s Two Goals Lifts Tritons Past Prairie Stars

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team got two goals from senior Jada Holloman in its 2-1 win over Illinois Springfield at Kiwanis Stadium in Springfield, Ill., on Friday evening. The Tritons are now 5-3-2, 2-3-2 GLVC while the Prairie Stars drop to 4-4-3, 4-3-1 GLVC.

Holloman opened the scoring for the Tritons in the 23rd minute. Receiving the ball in space, Holloman took a touch then sent a rocket into the top far-post corner for her team leading seventh of the season with Kayley Judy receiving the assist on the play.

UIS answered with less than a minute left in the first half. Carolyne Mathenia fed the ball to Katelynn Ward alone in the 18-yard box. Ward took the space in a one on one battle with goalkeeper Mary Kate Neal, slotting the ball in to tie the game 1-1.

Holloman scored her second of the contest and the game-winner in the 60th minute slipping the ball past Allison Mirimanian and into the side-netting for her eighth of the season.

The Tritons outshot the Prairie Stars 10-5 in the contest though both UMSL and UIS had four shots on goal. The Tritons were limited to two corners during the match but dominated possession in the contest.

Neal made three saves on the night, all coming in the second half.

The Tritons return to action this Sunday (Oct. 13) traveling across the river to take on McKendree at 12 p.m. at Leemon Field in Lebanon, Ill.
