ST. LOUIS – The No. 12 University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team rallied to defeat UIndy 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Mark Twain Building. The Tritons improve to 13-2, 4-1 GLVC while the Greyhounds drop to 14-4, 4-2 GLVC.
UMSL got off to a slow start falling behind 5-0 before rallying to take a 16-14 lead as part of a 5-0 run midway through the stanza.

The Tritons couldn't keep the momentum as UIndy ran off nine of the next 11 points to regain its five-point lead at 23-18 after an attack error by Young. UMSL wouldn't quit scoring six of the next seven points to tie the frame at 24 on after an attack error by Riley Laine. The Tritons were unable to complete the comeback as a service error by
Iyannah Jackson and a kill from Sophia Parlanti gave the Hounds a 26-24 victory.
UMSL jumped out to an early four-point lead in the second session but UIndy rallied thanks to a 6-1 run to take a 10-9 lead after a kill from Parlanti. The two sides went back-and-forth and were tied at 15 after Young was blocked by Kelsey McKenney and Madeline Lynch. The Tritons regained the lead thanks to a 4-1 run but the Greyhounds kept scrapping pulling to within 21-20 on a kill from Parlanti. UMSL closed out the set scoring the final four points to win it 25-20 and even the match at a set apiece.
The swing set saw seven ties and three lead changes. The Tritons led by three early but UIndy countered and had a three-point lead of its own. UMSL was the first to 20 points after an ace serve from
Caitlin Bishop. The Tritons extended their lead to 24-18 after an ace serve from
Trysta Foster. The Greyhounds fought off the first set point but not the second as Copeland knocked home one of her career and match-high 18 kills to end the set.
UMSL jumped out to a six-point lead to begin the deciding set UIndy got to within three but wouldn't get any closer than that. The Tritons pulled away thanks to a 6-1 run and led 21-13 after a kill from
Addison Voorhees. The Hounds made a late push pulling to within 23-18 but it wouldn't be enough as UMSL scored two of the final three points to seal the victory.
The Tritons hit .255 for the match with 66 kills against 25 errors in 161 attempts and saw Copeland and Santel reach double figures in kills. Copeland led the way while Santel added 15 kills. Bishop handed out 55 assists, Jackson had four blocks and
Skylar Weaver had a career-high 29 digs.
UIndy had 47 kills against 21 errors in 152 chances to hit .171 for the match. Parlanti led the way with 19 kills while Maddie Berger finished with 10 kills. Claire Morris dished out 42 assists, Laine finished with six blocks and Ellie Spang had 20 digs.
UMSL is back in action next weekend as it travels to Hammond, Ind., to take part in the Midwest Region Crossover at the Hammond Sportsplex. Opponents and match times will be announced on Sunday.
