ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer dropped a hard fought 1-0 decision against Lewis on Friday evening at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons fall to 3-4-5, 1-3-5 GLVC while the Flyers improve to 6-1-6, 6-0-3 GLVC.
UMSL had the game's first scoring chance in the second minute.
Drew Schenk sent a corner kick into the box and
Colton Milosch headed it back to Schenk who fired a shot over the bar from about 16 yards out.
Lewis broke the scoreless deadlock in the 21st minute. The Tritons tried to clear the ball but didn't get it out and a foul by
JT Goldstein gave the Flyers a free kick. Mikey Revell sent the free kick to the top of the box and the ball was headed out. Roman Hernandez got to it and found Makonnen Stampley free in the box and he scored for his second goal of the season.
Lewis held a 4-3 advantage in shots in the first and had the only shot on goal.
The only shot in the second half came from Goldstein in the 78th minute. He nearly headed home the equalizer but his attempt just missed wide.
The two teams had four shots apiece in the contest with the Flyers recording the lone shot on goal.
UMSL is back in action on Sunday hosting No. 22 UIndy at 2:30 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
