ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team picked up an important point with a 1-1 draw against No. 22 UIndy on Sunday afternoon at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons are now 3-4-6, 1-2-6 GLVC while the Greyhounds are 8-3-2, 8-1-2 GLVC.
There were only seven total shots in the first half with UIndy recording to four UMSL's three with each side putting a shot on goal.
The Tritons broke the scoreless deadlock in the 52nd minute. Vincent Montoya was called for holding
JT Goldstein in the penalty box resulting in a penalty kick for UMSL.
Jon Campbell stepped up to the spot and hit it off the crossbar and in for his team leading sixth goal of the season.
The Tritons had a chance to extend their lead in the 65th minute as
Roman Ryabchenko tried to beat Ionas Giovanidis to the lower right post but GIovanidis got over to make the save.
The Hounds tied the game in the 72nd minute. Demetris Giannakopoulos found Kabriu Gafar at the top of the box. Gafar connected with Jona Hogle who beat
Austin Reis to the far post for his first goal of the season.
Each side had their chances in the final 10 minutes but were unable to put anything on goal.
UIndy had a 9-8 edge in shots with each side putting three shots on goal. Reis made two saves for the Tritons.
UMSL begins its final road trip of the regular season next Friday traveling to Quincy, Ill., to take on the Hawks at 7:30 p.m. at Legends Stadium.
