Tritons Ground Flyers for Third Straight Victory

ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team defeated Lewis 4-1 for its third straight win on Friday night at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons improve to 7-3-2, 4-3-2 GLVC while the Flyers fall to 2-9-1, 2-7 GLVC.

It was a tight first half with UMSL opening the scoring in the fourth minute with Josie Maddox scoring her fourth goal of the season. Kamryn Ealey fed Maddox the ball at the top of the box. Maddox took a touch to create space between her and Lewis goalkeeper Josie Graziosi before slipping the ball into the net to make it 1-0 UMSL.

Lewis answered with less than five minutes to go in the first half. Jada Harvey found Breanna Culver with space and Culver took advantage to make it 1-1 sliding a shot past Mary Kate Neal.

The second half was all Tritons from the start. Kayley Judy scored her second goal of the season less than a minute into the second half, off an assist from Jada Holloman to give UMSL the lead back.

The Tritons added an insurance goal in the 52nd minute, Jaycee Cotton found herself with space in the center of the box after an Emily Bloomfield free kick. Cotton flicked the ball past Graziosi for her second goal of the season to make it 3-1.

Aubree Wallace scored the fourth and final goal for UMSL in the 68th minute. Judy threaded a pass through to Wallace at the top right of the 18-yard-box. Wallace took a touch before rifling a shot to the far post to score her first collegiate goal.

The Tritons outshot Lewis 24-6 including 10-3 in shots on goal and limited the Flyers to just one shot in the second half.

UMSL returns to action this Sunday (Oct. 20) hosting UIndy (7-5-1, 6-3-1 GLVC) at 12 p.m.. The Tritons will celebrate Senior Day before the match to honor the nine seniors on the roster.
