ST. LOUIS -- The No. 14 University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team dropped its second straight match falling to Maryville 3-1 on Friday evening at Moloney Arena. The Tritons fall to 15-4, 4-2 GLVC while the Saints improve to 11-10, 5-2 GLVC.
The opening stanza went back-and-forth as UMSL trailed 14-13 halfway through the frame. Maryville went on a 6-3 run to build a four-point edge and wouldn't let the Tritons get closer than three as it won the stanza 25-18.
The second set was all Saints as it .360 in the frame and had six service aces on their way to a 25-12 victory.
The Tritons found their offense in set three hitting .250 and pulled away thanks to a 10-4 run that broke a 9-9 tie. Maryville cut the lead to four but wouldn't get any closer as UMSL scored four of the final five points to win 25-18 and extend the match.
The Saints service game continued to put pressure on the Tritons in set four with seven aces in the frame. It led by as many as nine at 22-13 but UMSL wouldn't go without a fight pulling to within 24-20 after a kill from
Hannah Copeland. That would be the closest the Tritons got though as an error on the next point ended the match in favor of Maryville.
UMSL was held to a .159 hitting percentage with 42 kills against 21 errors in 132 attempts.

Alayna Santel and
Iyannah Jackson led the way for the Tritons combining for 35 of those kills.
Caitlin Bishop had 39 assists,
Skylar Weaver added 15 digs and Copeland had four blocks.
The Saints hit .182 in the contest with 49 kills against 25 errors in 132 chances and had 16 aces in the match. Ella Brinkman had a match-high 16 kills while Emma Hoing finished with 15 kills. Regina Elguezabal had seven aces. Rachel Schipper handed out 23 assists, Taylor Hasbrook added 21 digs and Hanna Dressing finished with four blocks.
UMSL wraps up its road trip on Saturday traveling down to Rolla, Mo., to take on Missouri S&T at 5 p.m. at Gibson Arena.
