FAYETTE, Iowa -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team outbattled Upper Iowa for a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon at Harms-Eischeid Stadium in Fayette, Iowa. The Tritons improve to 10-3-2, 7-3-2 GLVC while the Peacocks fall to 4-6-4, 4-5-3 GLVC.
With the win, UMSL clinches a spot in the GLVC tournament for the fourth straight year. It is also the first time since 2016 that the Tritons have reached double digit wins in a season.
It was a tightly contested first half as UMSL was limited to just three shots on net with Upper Iowa managing just two.
Both
Jaycee Cotton and
Josie Maddox had shots that just missed wide left in the last ten minutes of the first half. Neither challenged Peacocks goalkeeper Isabelle Wagner.
The battle continued in the second half with the midfield remaining contested, preventing either team from having sustained possession.
Despite the back and forth,
Kayley Judy broke through in the 64
th minute.
Jada Holloman started the play on the far side, finding Judy, who continued making the run towards the box. Cutting across her defender, Judy fired a missile from just inside the box that went in top corner on the far post.
Mary Kate Neal, who broke her season shutout record on Friday, added her sixth shutout against Upper Iowa making three saves in the contest.
UMSL outshot the Peacocks 12-5 in the contest including 5-3 in shots on goal. UIU held the advantage in corner kicks 7-4.
