ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team notched its first win of the season defeating Missouri Baptist 4-3 on Friday at Christian Brothers College Cadet Park in St. Louis. The Tritons improve to 1-1 while the Spartans drop to 1-1.
UMSL swept the doubles matches to clinch the opening point of the dual.
Marcos Navas and
Percy Siercke won at number one doubles over Strahinja Radanovic and Filip Petrovic 6-2.
Tanin Ramnath and
Bauty Rooney defeated Lucas Kzam and Nicolas Sanchez 6-1 and
Joan Garros and
Jose Yañez beat Alberto Pros Cieker and Arkhip Tokmakov 7-6 (10-8).
The Spartans evened the match at one as Radanovic defeated Navas in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 at number one singles. Ramnath and Siercke each won their matches to give UMSL a 3-1 lead. Ramnath defeated Tokmakov 6-1, 6-4 and Siercke beat Kzam 7-5, 6-1. MBU pulled to within 3-2 after Sanchez's 6-1, 6-2 win over Rooney.
Garros clinched the win for the Tritons defeating Cieker 6-2, 6-1 in the number five singles match. Yanez dropped his match to Danijel Balgojevic 4-6, 6-7 (5-7).
UMSL wraps up its fall season next Saturday (Oct. 12) hosting Missouri Valley at 11 a.m. at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
