ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team secured their eighth straight win with a 3-0 victory over Truman State to close out the regular season on Sunday afternoon at the Lou Fusz Soccer Complex. The win means the Tritons finish the regular season with a 12-3-2, 9-3-2 GLVC record and finish fifth in the GLVC while the Bulldogs finish the regular season at 5-8-4, 4-7-3 GLVC and will be the eight seed in the GLVC Tournament.
UMSL will travel to Kansas City next Sunday to take on fourth seeded Rockhurst in a GLVC Quarterfinal contest at 12 p.m. at Bourke Field. The two sides met back in September with the Hawks coming away with a 2-0 win.
It didn't take long for the Tritons to find the scoreboard.
Aubree Wallace scored her second goal of the season in the second minute.
Jada Holloman started the play by finding
Kayley Judy who fed a through ball to Wallace at the top of the box. Wallace took a shot, catching the Truman State goalkeeper off her line, and the ball trickled into the far post side netting to make it 1-0 UMSL.
The Tritons outshot the Bulldogs 9-2 in the first 45 minutes including 5-1 in shots on goal.
Taylor Martin added an insurance goal in the 59
th minute on an UMSL corner kick. With the ball bouncing in the 18-yard box, Martin took advantage of the chaos to get her foot on the ball and slot her shot home into the near post putting the Tritons up 2-0. It was Martin's second goal of the season.
UMSL's final goal came on a corner kick as well.
Emily Bloomfield sent the ball into the box in the 74
th minute and an unmarked
Kamryn Ealey got her head on the ball, knocking it into the back of the net to make it 3-0. It was Ealey's third goal of the season and Bloomfield was credited with the assist.
The win is the fifth Triton shutout in a row and goalkeeper
Mary Kate Neal's eighth of the season. Neal made two saves, one in each half, to preserve the shutout. The shutout also moved Neal into a tie for fifth place for most shutouts in a single season.
UMSL finished the contest outshooting Truman 23-4 including 11-2 in shots on goal and had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
