ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team got a balanced scoring attack as all 11 players who played finished in the scoring column in its 83-53 win over Maryville on Monday evening at the Mark Twain Building. The Tritons improve to 2-5, 2-0 GLVC while the Saints drop to 1-6, 0-2 GLVC.
UMSL jumped out to an early eight-point lead but Maryville got back-to-back baskets from Luke Williams and Andre Klaver to cut the Triton advantage to four less than five minutes into the game. That would be the closest the Saints got as UMSL outscored them 29-14 over the remainder of the half to take a 19-point lead into the locker room at the break.
The Tritons shot 47 percent (14-for-30) from the field including 5-of-13 from three and 67 percent at the foul line in the first 20 minutes and outrebounded Maryville 25-to-16.
Savon Wykle led UMSL with eight points while
Emanuel Prospere II added seven points and
Janeir Harris dropped home six points.
The Tritons carried that momentum into the second half as they scored 13 of the first 15 points to extend its halftime lead to 30 points after a layup by
Quenton Parker. UMSL led by as many as 33 points in the contest after an old fashioned three-point play from Harris with 3:32 remaining.
The 83 points were a season-high for the Tritons while the 53 fewest points were the fewest allowed this season. UMSL's 28 field goals made were also a season best as was its 18 made free throws.
The Tritons shot 44 percent (28-for-64) from the floor in the contest including 9-of-25 from beyond the arc and 75 percent at the foul line. They outrebounded Maryville 49-to-33 and their bench outscored the Saints bench by a margin of 49-to-24.
Prospere II finished with a season-high 17 points while Harris added 12, Wykle had 11 and
Troy Glover II finished with 10 points.
UMSL's defense held Maryville to 33 percent (22-for-66) shooting in the contest including 2-of-19 from three and 50 percent at the foul line. Francisco Espinosa led the Saints with 14 points while Keyyaun Batchman had 11 points and nine rebounds.
The Tritons continue their three-game homestand this Thursday (Dec. 5) against the University of Indianapolis at 7:30 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
