Men’s Basketball Extends Win Streak to Three with 66-59 Win Over UIndy on Thursday

ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team extended its win streak to three with a 66-59 win over the University of Indianapolis on Chuck Smith Court at the Mark Twain Building on Thursday evening. The Tritons improve to 3-5, 3-0 GLVC while the Greyhounds drop to 3-4, 0-2 GLVC.

The first half was a game of runs with each side countering the other. UMSL trailed 21-19 after DaShawn Jackson hit two of three free throws with 9:08 left in the first half. That would be UIndy's last lead of the half as the Tritons went on a 10-0 run over the next 5:31 to grab its largest lead of the frame at 29-21 on a free throw from Matt Enright.

The Hounds got three straight points from Brody Whitaker to cut the margin to five but a layup from Troy Glover II gave UMSL a seven-point lead at the break.
Savon Wykle led the Tritons with 10 points in the first 20 minutes of play while Janeir Harris added eight and Glover II dropped home six.

UMSL's defense held UIndy without a three-point basket in the first half.

Dylan Ingram got the Hounds going in the second half hitting back-to-back threes to pull UIndy within one at 31-30 but the Tritons answered with four points from Glover II and two more from Ethan Chartrand to regain its seven-point cushion.

Ingram continued to have the hot hand hitting two more threes to bring the Hounds back within one again. A dunk by Jackson gave UIndy its first lead since the 9:08 mark of the opening half.

The lead was short lived as Emanuel Prospere II buried a three to put UMSL back in front. Two free throws from Jackson tied the game again at 40 but an old fashioned three-point play from KC Udolisa gave the Tritons a 43-40 advantage with 12:33 remaining.

The Hounds tied the game on a dunk from Tucker Tornatta before Prospere II put UMSL in front for good with a layup in the paint. After a layup from Thomas Pierce made it a two-point margin, Udolisa answered with a three to extend the lead to five that sparked an 11-0 run.

UMSL's defense held UIndy scoreless for the next 5:10 and sealed the win with a three from Harris.

The Hounds made a late push cutting it to seven with 0:41 to go after a three from Jackson but wouldn't get any closer as the Tritons were able to run out the clock.

The Tritons shot 49 percent (23-for-47) from the field in the contest including 5-of-15 from three but shot only 60 percent at the foul line. Udolisa scored 12 of his team-high 16 points in the second half while Wykle added 15, Harris finished with 13 and Glover II had 10. UMSL outrebounded UIndy 42-to-27 in the contest.

The Greyhounds were held to 35 percent (20-for-58) shooting from the floor in the contest but were 7-of-23 from downtown and shot 60 percent at the charity stripe. Jackson led all scorers with 18 points and was joined in double figures by Ingram with 14 points.

The Tritons wrap up their three-game homestand on Saturday hosting Lewis at 3 p.m. on Chuck Smith Court at the Mark Twain Building.
