ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a 6-1 loss to 15th ranked Washburn on Saturday at the Topeka, Country Club in Topeka, Kan.
The Tritons drop to 2-1 while the Ichabods move to 1-0.
Washburn won all three doubles matches to take the opening point. Peyton Koper and Isabella Martensson defeated
Anna Domingo and
Aleksandra Lopez 6-0 in the second doubles match.
Lauren Sweeney and
Anna Favaron lost to Maddie Shelley and Renske Ubachs 6-3 while
Maja Lietzau and
Hannah Tse fell to the eighth ranked duo of Maja Jung and Lara Schmid 6-2.
In singles action, Lopez picked up a point for UMSL defeating Schmid 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 in the fourth singles match. Domingo fell to third ranked Jung 6-1, 6-2 in the number one singles match. Lietzau was beaten by Ubacks 6-1, 6-3, Tse lost to Koper 7-5, 6-1. Favaron fell in straight sets to Martensson 6-2, 6-1 and Sweeney lost to Shelley 6-2, 6-3 in the final singles contest.
The Tritons are back in action on Sunday traveling to St. Joseph, Mo., to take on No. 17 Northwest Missouri State at 10 a.m. at Genesis Indoor Courts.
