ST. LOUIS – For the second day in a row the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team rallied for a 4-3 victory this time defeating former Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Southern Indiana on Sunday afternoon at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
The Tritons (5-4) won all three doubles contests to take the opening point of the match.
Tanin Ramnath and
Gavin Sohn got things started with a 6-0 win over Guy Finkelstein and Dylan Brown in the third doubles match.
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey clinched the doubles point defeating Mathys Bove and Axel Sabourin 6-4 at No. 1 doubles and
Juan Vigil and
Marcos Navas completed the sweep with a 7-6 (7-2) victory over Quinten Gillespie and Eytan Michaeli.
The Screaming Eagles (1-9) won three of the first four singles matches to grab a 3-1 lead. Sabourin knocked off Mackey in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 at number three singles to even the match at 1-1. UMSL regained the lead as Mayorga beat Michaeli 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.
USI won the next two matches to grab a 3-2 lead. Bove rallied for a three-set win over Vigil 4-6, 6-14, 1-0 (10-6) to square the match at two and then Gillespie followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Navas.
The Tritons stormed back winning the final two matches to complete the comeback. Ramnath tied the match with his 6-2, 6-3 win over Brown and Sohn clinched the victory defeating Blake Deaton 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 in the sixth singles match.
UMSL returns to the courts next Sunday traveling to St. Charles to take on Lindenwood at the Lindenwood Tennis Courts.
