ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team extended its winning streak to three defeating Indiana (Pa.) 6-2 and Wayne State (Mich.) 9-4 on Sunday afternoon in The Spring Games at the Diamondplex in Winter Haven, Fla.
Game 1 – UMSL 6 IUP 2
The Tritons (12-10) jumped out to an early scoring a pair of runs in the second.
Maddie Snemis brought home
Gwyn Miller with the first run of the game with a single to second.
Irene Travis made it 2-0 hitting a triple that scored
May Pasqualini.
UMSL added to its lead in the third. Pasqualini
made it 3-0 as she doubled home
Megan Russell and Snemis followed with a double to drive in Pasqualini.
The Tritons final two runs came in the fifth. Travis reached on a fielder's choice that scored Russell and Pasqualini scored when Travis was thrown out at second trying to steal.
The Crimson Hawks (9-4) got single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Madison Pikula drove in Jess Cekada with a sacrifice fly to left in the fifth and Cekada singled home Paige Truax in the sixth.
UMSL finished with 10 hits in the contest and was led by Snemis with three while Pasqualini added two more.
Lexi Sherrick picked up the win allowing no runs on two hits while striking out two in four innings pitched to improve to 2-4.
Emily Compton and Ashley Borowitz each gave up a run in their outings.
Game 2 – UMSL 9 Wayne State 4
The Tritons fell behind 3-0 in the first inning of the nightcap. UMSL's first run of the contest scored in its first at-bat as
Courtney Settles hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Snemis.
The Tritons tied the game in the third as Pasqualini doubled in Miller and Snemis brought home Pasqualini with a groundout to second.
The Warriors (4-7) retook the lead in the third as Mia Hool drove in her second run of the contest with a double to right center.
UMSL took the lead in its half of the third as
Simia Spahiev hit a two-run homer to left center for her third of the season.
The Tritons extended their lead with a run in the fifth as
Mia Boyd hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring
McKenzie Lamos. UMSL put the game scoring three times in the sixth as Travis and Settles had RBI hits in the frame.
The Tritons outhit Wayne State 14-7 in the contest was led by Travis and Spahiev with three hits apiece. Snemis and Settles finished with two hits each. Borowitz improved to 7-6 allowing four runs on four this while striking out six. Schaake pitched a scoreless seventh.
UMSL plays its final games in Florida on Monday against Lake Erie College at 9 a.m. (CDT) and Salem (W.V.) at 11:30 p.m. at the Auburndale Softball Complex in Winter Haven, Fla.
