ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team wrapped up its trip to Florida on Monday splitting a pair of games to finish the week with a record of 6-4. The Tritons won their first game of the day defeating Lake Erie 6-1 before dropping the finale to Salem 11-9.
Game 1 – UMSL 6 Lake Erie 1
UMSL (13-11) jumped out to an early lead in the opener scoring three times on four hits in the first.
McKenzie Lamos drove in
Maddie Snemis with the first run of the game with a single up the middle. Lamos and
Irene Travis then pulled off a double steal to pick up its second run of the frame.
Simia Spahiev drove in Lamos with the final run of the inning with a double down the left field line.
The Tritons added two more in the fourth as Travis doubled to right center scoring
May Pasqualini and Snemis stole home when Lamos was called out on strikes.
The Storm (0-9) lone tally came in the fifth on Maddie Pawla's ground out to second that scored Adrianna Sluga.
UMSL regained its five-run cushion as Travis reached on fielder's choice in the sixth that scored
Megan Russell.
The Tritons finished with 13 hits in the contest and were led by Snemis with four while Travis, Russell and Pasqualini had two apiece.
Katie Schaake picked up the victory allowing one run on two hits while striking out three in six innings pitched to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Game 2 – Salem 11 UMSL 9
UMSL fell into 8-0 hole after two and half innings as the Tigers (5-5) scored four runs in both the second and third innings.
The Tritons started chipping away at the lead scoring twice in the home half of the third. Spahiev reached on a fielder's choice to short as Travis eluded a tag at the plate for UMSL's first run.
Gwyn Miller brought home Lamos with a sacrifice fly to left to make it 8-2.
The Tritons added four in the fourth cutting the deficit to two. Travis drove in Pasqualini and Russell with a single to left center then Lamos hit a two-run home run to center.
UMSL tied the game in the sixth.
Courtney Settles hit a single up the middle that scored Snemis and then Spahiev singled to right to bring in Travis with the tying run.
Salem retook the lead with two out in the seventh on Meladie LaRance's three-run homer to right center.
The Tritons saw their first two runners reach in the bottom of the frame and had three cracks at tying the game but only scored one run on Snemis' sacrifice to second scoring

UMSL had 12 hits in the contest and were led by Travis with three while Lamos and Snemis had two each. Borowick took the loss giving up three runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts in four innings of relief work to drop to 7-7 on the season.
The Tritons return to the diamond this Saturday as they travel to Liberty, Mo., to open Great Lakes Valley Conference with a doubleheader at William Jewell starting at 12 p.m.
