UMSL Baseball Walks-Off Drury in Series Finale

ST. LOUIS – Things didn't start well for the Missouri-St. Louis baseball team but it finished on a high note as the Tritons overcame a five-run deficit to defeat Drury 7-6 with a walk-off in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at the UMSL Baseball Field. The Panthers (5-8, 3-1 GLVC) took the opener 11-2.

Game 2 – UMSL 7 Drury 6
The nightcap was scoreless heading into the fourth when Drury sent 10 batters to the plate scoring four runs on three hits.

UMSL (9-8, 1-3 GLVC) got one of those runs back in its half of the fourth as Zach Beatty scored from third on a throwing error by Kaden Byrne on Jake Isaacs' steal of second.
The Panthers added two more in the fifth but were held in check after that.

The Tritons cut the lead in half with single tallies in the fifth and sixth innings. Braedon Stoakes led off the fifth with a double to right center and scored on Andrew Buescher's one out single to left.

Justin Simard drove in Logan Mantz with a two-out single to right for UMSL's run in the sixth.

The Tritons tied the game in the eighth. Garrett Strenger scored the first run of the frame on a throwing error by Tyler Bastunas on Beatty's sacrifice bunt. Isaacs followed with a single to right to bring home Kameron Laskowski and Dane Stevenson brought home the tying run as Beatty scored on a squeeze play.

UMSL won the game in the ninth as it loaded the bases with one out. Beatty hit a 1-1 pitch on the ground between first and second and Drury's Luke Burk tried to get the force at the plate but his throw was low and Byrne couldn't handle it allowing Jordan Aguallo to score the winning run.

The Tritons had 11 hits in the nightcap and were led by Barrett Rose, Buescher and Isaacs with two apiece. Trent Anderson picked up the win throwing four scoreless innings while allowing three hits and striking out three to move to 1-0 on the season.

Game 1 – Drury 11 UMSL 2
The Panthers jumped out to a 9-0 lead after four and a half innings with two in the second, five in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

UMSL's two runs came in the fifth on Stoakes RBI double down the right field line that scored Stevenson and Rose brought home Laskowski with a sacrifice fly to right.

Drury's final two runs were scored in the seventh.

The Tritons had six hits in the opener and were led by Stevenson with a pair. Dustin Hagens took the loss giving up four runs on no hits but walked five and struck out four in three-plus innings to fall to 1-3 on the year.

UMSL wraps up its 13-game homestand next weekend hosting Lewis in a four-game set beginning on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the UMSL Baseball Field.
