ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team completed its four-game series sweep of Truman by scores of 9-4 and 7-1 on Saturday afternoon at TSU Baseball Park in Kirksville, Mo. With the wins the Tritons (16-9, 8-4 GLVC) extend their winning streak to a season-high seven games and have won eight of their last nine overall.
Game 1 – UMSL 9 Truman State 4
UMSL jumped all over the Bulldogs (7-19, 4-8 GLVC) scoring five runs in the top of the first of the opener.
Braedon Stoakes started the scoring hitting a one-out solo home run to left field. Later in the inning
Logan McInytre hit a two-run double to right bringing in
Barrett Rose and
Justin Simard to make it 3-0.
Andrew Buescher hit a two-run homer to center for the final runs of the frame.
The Tritons added three more in the second. Stoakes drove in his second run of the contest with a single scoring
Dane Stevenson. Simard drove in his seventh run of the weekend with a sacrifice fly to center that brought home Stoakes and McIntyre made it 8-0 with a double to right center that drove in Rose.
Truman State got on the board with three runs in the third. Luke Turner hit a two-run homer to center and Oliver Degenhardt doubled to left to bring home Dakota Joggerst. The Bulldogs got another run in the fourth as Tal Dean doubled to right scoring Luke Roussel.
UMSL's final run of the contest game in the seventh as Buescher hit his second home run of the game with a solo shot to right.
The Tritons finished with 11 hits in the first game and were led by Buescher with three while Stoakes, Simard and McIntyre had two hits apiece.
Dustin Hagens picked up the win on the mound giving up four runs on three hits while striking out a career-high 12 batters to even his record at 3-3.
Game 2 – UMSL 7 Truman State 1
The nightcap was scoreless until the third when UMSL put up four runs on Rose's grand slam to center scoring Stoakes, Stevenson and
Zach Beatty. The Tritons made it 5-0 in the fourth on McIntyre's second roundtripper of the day.
Truman's lone run came in the fourth as Degenhardt brought home Joggerst with a sacrifice fly to left.
UMSL added single runs in the fifth and ninth for the final margin. Buescher drove in both runs with a sacrifice fly in each frame.
The Tritons finished with nine hits in the contest and were led by Stoakes, Simard and Beatty with two each.
Garrett Brunstetter improved to 3-2 giving up one run on six hits while striking out a season-high 10 in seven innings pitched.
UMSL continues its road trip as it takes on crosstown rival Maryville in a four-game series beginning next Thursday (March 28) at 2 p.m. at Weber Field.
