ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team lost to Texas-Dallas 5-2 at the UTD Tennis Complex on Monday afternoon in Richardson, Texas.
The host Comets (4-2) took the doubles point with wins in the first two doubles contests.
Juan Vigil and
Raphael Kerndl fell to Andres Gonzalez and Nathan Qi 6-2 in the first doubles match and
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey dropped a 6-4 decision to Benjamin Dubois and Nicholas Boquet.
Marcos Navas and
Tanin Ramnath defeated Snehin Yerragudi and Noah Sam 7-6 (10-8) in the final doubles contest.
UTD and the Tritons (5-6) split the first two singles matches as Dubois beat Navas 6-3, 6-3 while Ramnath handed Boquet a 6-3, 6-2 defeat. The Comets clinched the match with wins in the third and first singles contests. Yerragudi rallied for a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win and Gonzalez, ranked 31st in Division III, beat Mayorga 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Kerndl beat Qi, ranked 35th in Division III, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) in the second singles contest. The final singles match was between
Gavin Sohn and Jed De Luna with De Luna prevailing in a third set tiebreak 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (12-10).
UMSL continues its four-game Spring Break trip on Wednesday against Southeastern Oklahoma State at 12 p.m. in Durant, Okla.
