ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought match to No. 50 Southeastern Oklahoma on Wednesday afternoon at the SE Tennis Complex in Durant, Okla.
The Tritons (5-7) got a win from
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey in the number two doubles as they beat Gen Naraya and Stipan Madzar by the score of 6-2. The Savage Storm (14-4) rallied to win the final two doubles matches to take the opening point of the contest. Luis Ching and Luke Tinnock beat
Tanin Ramnath and
Marcos Navas 6-2 while Marin Jurkovic and Thabo Ncube defeated
Raphael Kerndl and
Juan Vigil in a tiebreak 7-6 (8-6).
In the singles portion, UMSL tied the match with a win at number two singles. Kerndl led his match 3-1 in the opening set when his opponent retired. Mackey gave the Tritons a 2-1 lead defeating Ching in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 but SOSU won the next three contests to secure the victory. Madzar handed Mayorga a 6-2, 7-5 loss, Vigil won the opening set of his match against Naraya 6-2 before dropping the next two 6-2, 6-4 and Navas fell to Tinnock 6-2, 6-0. Ramnath's match against Vinicius Outor was unfinished with Ramnath took the opening set 6-2.
