ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team wrapped up its four-match Spring Break trip with a 5-2 loss in a tightly contested match to No. 43 Harding on Friday at the Elliott Tennis Complex in Searcy, Ark.
The Tritons (5-8) got a win from their number two doubles team of
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey defeating Caleb Folse and Jaydon Van Vreden 6-4 but the Bisons (11-7) won the other two doubles contests to take the opening point of the match. Cas de Ruiter and Teodor Zlatar beat
Raphael Kerndl and
Juan Vigil 6-1 while Cian Mikkelsen and Florian Gayme defeated
Marcos Navas and
Tanin Ramnath 6-1.
In the singles portion, UMSL got wins from Kerndl and Mackey. Kerndl rallied to defeat de Ruiter in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 and Mackey handed Luis Agullo a 5-7, 6-4, 10-1 loss in the fourth singles contest. Harding got wins from Zlatar as he rallied for a three-set win over Mayorga 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-3, Mikkelsen rallied to defeat Vigil in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, Bryce Walker beat Navas 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 and Edoardo D'Arrigo beat Ramnath in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
The Tritons return home next Saturday hosting Southwest Baptist at 1 p.m. at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
