ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team went 1-1 on Thursday on the second day of The Spring Games down in Florida. The Tritons dropped their first game of the day to No. 5 Grand Valley State 9-1 in five innings but bounced back to take game two over Wayne State (Neb.) 5-1.

UMSL (9-9) jumped out to the early lead scoring in each of the first three innings in the nightcap.
Courtney Settles drove in
Irene Travis with the first run of the game with a double in the home half of the first.
UMSL's second run came in the second inning on
Maddie Snemis' single scoring
Rylie Buchanan.
The Tritons scored three times in the third getting RBI singles from
Gwyn Miller and Buchanan to make it 4-0. UMSL's final run of the contest came on
Jamie Widule's ground out to first scoring Miller.
The Wildcats (2-18) lone run came on a home run from Hayley Murphy in the fifth inning.
UMSL finished with 10 hits in the contest and was led by Settles, Miller and Buchanan with two apiece.
Katie Schaake improved to 2-0 allowing one run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Lexi Sherrick allowed one hit and struck out three in her two innings pitched.
Game 1 – No. 5 Grand Valley 9 UMSL 1 5 innings
In Thursday's first game the Lakers jumped out to an early lead scoring three times in the first. Morgan Spicer drove in Hannah Hollister with a single back up the middle for the first run and Kelsey Komorous followed with a two-run homer to right.
The Tritons got a run back in the second as
May Pasqualini drove in Miller with a one out double to left. UMSL had the tying runs in scoring position in the inning but was unable to push across the tying runs.
Grand Valley added to its lead scoring four times in the fourth. MaryJane Goodman had the big hit in the inning with a two-run double to right that brought home Hollister and Komorous.
The Lakers final two runs came in the fifth on an RBI double from Hollister and a single from Spicer.
The Tritons were held to four hits in the contest with Pasqualini picking up two of them while Widule and Miller had the other two.
Ashley Borowitz took the loss in game one giving up seven runs on six hits while striking out three and walking four to drop to 6-5 on the season.
UMSL returns to the diamond for two more games on Friday. It'll take on Trevecca Nazarene at 9 a.m. (CST) and have a rematch against Grand Valley at 11:30 a.m. (CST).
