ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team rallied from an early deficit to defeat Michigan Tech 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
The Huskies (3-10) won two of the three doubles matches to take the opening point of the contest. Their number one team of Jack Lin and Leon Sell defeated
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey 6-4 while its second team of Eli Pinnoo and Landon Coates beat
Juan Vigil and
Marcos Navas 6-1. UMSL's (4-4) doubles team of
Tanin Ramnath and
Gavin Sohn handed Vitor Jordao and Ian Pinnoo a 6-4 defeat at number three doubles.
The Tritons first point of the contest came from Mackey as he beat Sell 7-6 (7-4) and 6-1 in the third singles contest. Ramnath followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Coates at No. 5 singles to give UMSL a 2-1 lead.
The Huskies won the four and six singles matches to retake the lead at 3-2. E. Pinnoo beat Sohn 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 contest while Adam Fenjiro handed Navas a 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) loss in the fourth singles contest.
UMSL won the final two matches as Mayorga rallied after dropping the opening set of his match to Lin 6-7 (6-7) but rallied to win the next two sets 6-0 and 6-3 to even the match at three apiece. Vigil clinched the victory rallying for a three-set win over Jordao 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 6-2.
The Tritons are back in action on Sunday hosting Southern Indiana at noon at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
