ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team defeated Quincy 4-2 for its second straight win on Friday afternoon at the Quincy Racquet Club in Quincy, Ill. The Tritons improve to 7-8 while the Hawks fall to 3-10.
UMSL won two of the three doubles contests to win the first point of the match.
Marcos Navas and
Tanin Ramnath defeated Joseph Restrepo and Gianni Lopez 6-4 in the number three doubles contest while
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey edged Pablo Mateos Niella and Sebastian Gomez 6-4 at No. 2 doubles. Quincy avoided the doubles sweep as Inigo Villacampa and Zach Willing beat
Juan Vigil and
Raphael Kerndl 7-6 in a tiebreak.
In singles play, the Tritons won the first two singles matches to extend its lead to 3-0. Kerndl defeated Willing in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 in the number two singles match and Mackey beat Gomez 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. The Hawks got wins from Restrepo as he knocked off Vigil 7-6, 6-4 in the third singles match and Villacampa beat Mayorga 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 to pull within 3-2.
UMSL clinched the match with Ramnath picking up the win over Lopez 6-4, 6-3.
The Tritons are back at home on Saturday hosting Maryville at 11 a.m. at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
