ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team defeated Lewis 5-2 for its fourth straight win on Friday afternoon at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex in Romeoville, Ill. The Tritons improve to 9-8, 2-0 GLVC while the Flyers fall to 9-12, 0-3 GLVC.
UMSL won two of the three doubles matches to win the first point of the contest.
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey defeated Oliwer Wierzbicki and Tatenda Mutetwa 6-2 and
Marcos Navas and
Tanin Ramnath beat Roberto Leal and Kristen Pavitt 7-6 (7-5) in a tiebreak.
Raphael Kerndl and
Juan Vigil lost to Matias Parzajuk and Indrek Soome 6-2.
The Tritons won the first two singles matches with Kerndl knocking off Parzajuk 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 and Vigil handed Wierzbicki a 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 6-1 defeat. Lewis won the next two singles contests to pull within 3-2 as Soome defeated Mayorga 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-6) in a tiebreak and Leal beat Mackey 6-1, 6-3. Navas clinched the win for UMSL as he knocked off Mutetwa 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 and Ramnath beat Santiago Carbajal 7-5, 6-4.
The Tritons play their final road match of the regular season on Saturday as it travels to Chatham, Ill., to take on Illinois Springfield at 11 a.m. at Chatham Glenwood High School.
