ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team saw its four-match win streak come to an end in a 4-3 loss to Illinois Springfield on Saturday at Chatham Glenwood High School in Chatham, Ill. The Tritons drop to 9-9 overall and 2-1 in the GLVC while the Prairie Stars improve to 9-5, 2-2 GLVC.
UIS won two of the three doubles contests to win the opening point of the match. UMSL's number one doubles team of
Raphael Kerndl and
Juan Vigil defeated Noah Burton and Rafa Rojas 6-4.
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey fell to Ivan Esguerra and En Lin Tan 7-5 and
Marcos Navas and
Tanin Ramnath lost to Pablo Herrera and Kai Van-Roon 6-1.
The Prairie Stars won three of the first four singles contests to clinch the victory. Mayorga lost to Burton 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. Kerndl got the Tritons on the board with a straight set win over Esguerra 7-5, 6-2. Vigil was defeated by Herrera 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) and Mackey lost to Tan 6-2, 3-6, 6-7 (2-7).
UMSL got wins from Navas and Ramnath in the final two contests. Navas beat Rojas 6-4, 6-4 and Ramnath defeated Lapsley 6-3, 6-0.
The Tritons are back at home on Friday (April 26) hosting McKendree at 2 p.m. at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
