ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team picked up its third straight win defeating Lewis 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex in Romeoville, Ill. The Tritons improve to 9-7, 2-0 GLVC while the Flyers drop to 11-7, 0-3 GLVC.
UMSL swept the doubles matches to pick up the first point of the contest. The Tritons No. 2 doubles team of
Hannah Tse and
Aleksandra Lopez defeated Sofiia Vdovychenko and Sreevally Medishetti 6-2,
Anna Domingo and
Maja Lietzau beat Casey Smith and Brooklyn Ross by the score of 6-3 and
Anna Favaron and
Lauren Sweeney handed Benedetta Luccone and Sage Hills a 7-6 defeat.
UMSL extended its lead to 2-0 as Lietzau won the number two singles dual against Ross 6-3, 6-2. Lewis got on the board as Smith defeated Domingto 6-4, 6-4. The Tritons won the next two matches as Tse beat Vdovychenko 7-5, 6-4 and Lopez won by default against Medishetti. Favaron won in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 over Luccone and Sweeney fell to Hills in three sets. Sweeney won the first set 6-2 but lost the next two 6-1 and 1-0 (10-4) in a tiebreak.
UMSL plays its final road match of the regular season on Saturday as it travels to Chatham, Ill., to take on Illinois Springfield at 11 a.m. at Chatham Glenwood High School.
