ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team clinched a spot in the GLVC Tournament with a 5-2 win over Illinois Springfield on Saturday at Chatham Glenwood High School in Chatham, Ill. The Tritons improve to 10-7, 3-0 GLVC while the Prairie Stars fall to 6-7, 1-3 GLVC.
UMSL won two of the three doubles contests to take the opening point of the match. The Tritons number two doubles team of
Hannah Tse and
Aleksandra Lopez beat Sina Skjelstad and Piper Schrepferman 6-2 and the team of
Anna Favaron and
Lauren Sweeney handed Niamh Grogan and Kalin Kalinowska a 7-6 (7-5) defeat.
UIS evened the match at 1-1 as Carmen Llopis Fabra defeated
Anna Domingo 6-4, 6-4. UMSL won the next four singles contests to clinch the match.
Maja Lietzau put the Tritons back in front with a straight set win over Skjelstad 6-1, 6-4, Tse won in three sets over Schrepferman 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-3 and Lopez clinched the victory with a three-set win over Bucco 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (7-2). Favaron made it 5-1 with a sweep of Grogan 7-5, 6-3.
UMSL is back at home on Friday (April 26) hosting McKendree at 2 p.m. at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
