ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team dropped its regular season finale to No. 7 Indianapolis 4-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Tritons finish the regular season with an overall record of 9-11 including 2-3 in the GLVC while the Greyhounds improve to 13-4, 5-0.
Thanks to Lewis' loss at Illinois Springfield on Saturday UMSL clinched the fourth seed in the Great Lake Valley Conference's East Division and will take on the top seed from the West Division in next week's GLVC Tournament at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
The Greyhounds won the first doubles match as Tom Zeuch and Matthieu Derache defeated
Raphael Kerndl and
Juan Vigil by the score of 6-3. The Tritons evened the score with a win at number three doubles as
Marcos Navas and
Tanin Ramnath beat David Simeonov and Pedro Franca 6-4. The doubles competition came down the final point as UIndy's tandem of Louis Picaud and Erwan Andre Momo defeated UMSL's
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-5) to clinch the doubles point for the Greyhounds.
UIndy extended its lead in the match to 2-0 as Zeuch defeated Mayorga 6-4, 6-1 at number one singles. UMSL got on the board as Mackey defeated Simeonov 6-4, 6-2 in the fourth singles match. The Hounds made it 3-1 as Derache beat Navas 6-3, 6-4. Vigil brought the Tritons within 3-2 defeating Manuel Lanteri 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 at number five singles.
UIndy clinched the win as Momo Andre beat Kerndl in three sets 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
Pairings and times for next week's GLVC Tennis Tournament will be released by the conference office on Saturday evening.
