Tritons Upset Bid Falls Short

EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team's upset bid of top ranked and top seeded UIndy came up short in a 5-4 loss to the Greyhounds on the second day of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Tournament at the Eastside Centre in East Peoria, Ill.

The Tritons drop to 28-26 while UIndy improves to 52-3.

The Hounds took the early lead with a run in the first inning as Megan Nichols scored on a throwing error by May Pasqualini on Emily O'Connor's stolen base off second.

UMSL sent eight batters to the plate in its first at-bat of the contest scoring four runs on three hits. Pasqualini led off the game with an infield single and then back-to-back walks loaded the bases for McKenzie Lamos. Lamos tied the game with a single down the right field line scoring Pasqualini. Gwyn Miller put the Tritons in front with another single down the right field line scoring Irene Travis. Maddie Illingworth drove in the third run of the frame with a groundout to second and Katie Schaake had a groundout to third that made it 4-1.

UIndy cut UMSL's lead in half with a run in the second on Jocelyn Calvin's single to right center scoring Dominique Proctor.
It stayed that way until the sixth when the Greyhounds scored three runs on two hits to retake the lead. Proctor tied the game with a single and then Jayden Casebolt hit a two-out, two-run pinch hit single to right center scoring Casebolt and Nicole Pearce.

The Tritons got the tying run on base in both the sixth and seventh innings but couldn't bring them home.
UMSL had five hits in the contest and was led by Lamos with two. Ashley Borowitz took the loss giving up five runs, four earned, on four hits with six strikeouts but walked four to fall to 14-15.

The Tritons will face McKendree in a rematch of Thursday's game at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Eastside Centre in East Peoria, Ill.
