Men’s Soccer Scores Late for Second Straight Win

JACKSON, Tenn. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team got a goal in the 88th minute to pick up a 3-2 win at Union on Tuesday evening in Jackson, Tenn. The Tritons improve to 2-1 while the Bulldogs fall to 2-1.

UMSL opened the scoring as it connected on its first shot of the game in the second minute of play. Gibson Hunt found Devin Livingstone inside the penalty area and he beat the keeper in the low center of the goal for his first of the season.

Union got the equalizer in the 29th minute off a free kick as Diego Medina found Cillian Heaney who beat Austin Reis for his second goal of the season.

The score remained tied at the break with the Bulldogs holding a 6-4 advantage in shots including 2-1 in shots on goal.

The Tritons retook the lead in the 61st minute scoring off a corner kick. Michael Quinn's initial shot was blocked but Kevin Rios stayed with it scoring his first collegiate goal.

Union wouldn't go quietly tying the game in the 71st minute. Reis stopped a penalty kick by Kenny Nitzsche but the rebound came free and Ashanie Kennedy scored the equalizer.

The Tritons scored the game-winner on a penalty kick as Daniel Dixon committed a foul in the box and was shown a red card. Jon Campbell converted the penalty for his team and league leading third goal of the season with 2:24 to play.

The Bulldogs had one final chance in the closing seconds but Kennedy's shot missed wide left and the clock ran out to end the game.

The Tritons finished the game outshooting Union 15-13 but the Bulldogs had the edge in shots on goal 6-4. UMSL had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

The Tritons continue their five-game road trip on Sunday as they travel to Springfield, Mo., to take on Drury in the GLVC opener for both teams at 2:30 p.m. at Harrison Stadium at the Curry Sports Complex.
