Women’s Soccer Draws at Southwest Baptist on Friday

BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team settled for a scoreless draw at Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo. on Friday evening. The Tritons are now 3-1-1, 0-1-1 in GLVC play while the Bearcats are 0-3-2, 0-1-1 in GLVC play.

UMSL outshot SBU 10 to one in the first half with both Julie Steiger and Josie Maddox hitting the post. The Tritons had three shots on goal while preventing the Bearcats from registering a single shot on net.

The second half was a similar tale with UMSL dominating statistically but was unable to find the back of the net.

In the 83rd minute, the Tritons were awarded a penalty kick. Emily Bloomfield stepped up to the spot to take the penalty for UMSL but Bearcat goalkeeper Cece Alexander made the save, preventing the go-ahead goal.

With 17 corners, the attack was all Tritons, forcing 10 saves out of the Bearcats keeper. However, UMSL was hard pressed to keep their shots on net.

In the final two minutes, Aubree Wallace had a chance that the sophomore sent high. Forty seconds later Kayley Judy had her shot blocked, forcing the offense to reset.

Jada Holloman led the team with six shots, followed by Maddox, Judy and Kamryn Ealey, each with five. Mary Kate Neal recorded her second shutout of the season.

The Tritons look to bounce back on Sunday, when they face Rockhurst at 12 p.m. at Bourke Field in Kansas City. The Hawks are 2-4 on the season including 0-2 in GLVC play.
