KANSAS CITY -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to Rockhurst at Bourke Field on Sunday afternoon. The Tritons are now 3-2-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in GLVC play while the Hawks improve to 3-4, 1-2 GLVC.
UMSL had a golden opportunity to get on the board early in the contest.
Jada Holloman stole the ball from the goalkeeper inside the 18-yard box and fired a shot towards goal that was saved off the line.
Julia Murdoch got the rebound and fired another shot towards goal that was again saved off the line.
The Tritons outshot Rockhurst 5-1 in the first half including 3-0 in shots on goal.
The Hawks would strike first in the 54
th minute off a throw in. The ball bounced to Anna Lantz, who found space down the wing before cutting the ball back and scoring far post to give Rockhurst the 1-0 lead early in the second half.
Lantz would add a second goal in the 58
th minute. The Hawks recovered UMSL's free kick and found Lantz at the top of the 18-yard box. With space, Lantz took a few touches before tucking the ball past a diving
Mary Kate Neal to make it 2-0.
The Tritons had chances in the last 20 minutes but couldn't find the back of the net. A corner in the 77
th minute looked dangerous as it bounced to an unmarked Triton on the edge of the box but ultimately Rockhurst cleared the ball.
UMSL finished the game with six shot attempts, four of which were on goal. Murdoch and
Kamryn Ealey led the Tritons with two shots a piece.
Neal made four saves on six shots on goal.
The Tritons return home on Friday (Sept. 27) hosting Lincoln at Don Dallas Field at 5 p.m.
