KANSAS CITY – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team wrapped up its five-game road trip with a 3-1 win over Rockhurst at Bourke Field on Sunday afternoon in Kansas City. The Tritons improve to 3-2-1, 1-1-1 GLVC while the Hawks fall to 0-5, 0-3 GLVC.
The win snapped UMSL's six-game winless streak at Rockhurst and was their first win at Bourke Field since a 2-1 win on Oct. 13, 2013.
The Hawks struck first with a goal in the 18th minute. After a foul, Asier Olano blasted a free kick from 45 yards out into the upper left-hand corner for his second goal of the season.
The Tritons had three cracks at tying the game but all three shots on goal were turned aside by Franco Brunoro.
Rockhurst outshot UMSL 6-5 in the first 45 minutes but each side had three shots on goal.
The Tritons got the equalizer 12:02 into the second half.
Mario Garcia fired a shot on goal that was knocked away by Brunoro but went out of play for an UMSL throw.
JT Goldstein threw it into the penalty box and as the ball was trying to be cleared it fell to
Michael Quinn who fired it past Brunoro for his first goal of the season.
Less than a minute later, the Tritons were forced to play a man down after
Diego Cadena was sent off after picking up his second yellow card of the match.
Despite being a man down, UMSL dominated the next 15 minutes and were rewarded with two goals. Brunoro intercepted a corner kick into the box and then committed a foul in the box as he retaliated and was shown a yellow card. The Tritons converted the penalty kick as
Jon Campbell scored his team leading fourth goal.
Rockhurst made a goalie change in the 70th minute and after the change a turnover resulted in UMSL's third goal.
Melo Mensah passed it back to Campbell who scored into the lower left-corner past a diving Mick McLaughlin from 25 yards out in the 71st minute for his second goal of the afternoon.
Each team had 12 shots and seven shots on goal in the contest. The Tritons had an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Austin Reis made six saves in goal.
UMSL is back at home this Friday (Sept. 27) hosting Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
