Second Half Rally Lifts Women’s Soccer past Northwest Missouri

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The University of St. Louis Missouri women's soccer team wrapped up their opening weekend with a 3-2 win over Northwest Missouri at Yager Stadium on Saturday in Topeka, Kan. The Tritons improve to 2-0 while the Bearcats drop to 0-1-1.

Julie Steiger broke the deadlock early, scoring in the 16th minute to put the Tritons ahead 1-0. The goal is the junior's first in an UMSL uniform. Kamryn Ealey assisted on the goal.

However, Northwest Missouri State responded just three minutes later with a goal by Ekaterina Theoharidis to make it a 1-1 game.

In the 31st minute, Lucia Fernandez made it 2-1 for the Bearcats, scoring from the left side of the 18-yard box. Like the Theoharidis goal, Fernandez kept her shot low and scored center.

The Tritons stormed back in the second half with a Jada Holloman brace in less than a minute. The senior's first goal came in the 63rd minute from the left side of the six-yard box on a low shot. Emily Bloomfield had the assist.

52 seconds later Holloman scored a stunner from the midfield, rifling the shot into the top center of the goal. Emma Ealey recorded the assist on Holloman's rocket.

UMSL outshot Northwest Missouri State 17-12 including 10-8 in shots on goal. The Tritons had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

UMSL hosts Newman University in its home opener on Thursday (Sept. 12) at 5 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
