TOPEKA, Kan. -- The University of St. Louis Missouri women's soccer team wrapped up their opening weekend with a 3-2 win over Northwest Missouri at Yager Stadium on Saturday in Topeka, Kan. The Tritons improve to 2-0 while the Bearcats drop to 0-1-1.
Julie Steiger broke the deadlock early, scoring in the 16
th minute to put the Tritons ahead 1-0. The goal is the junior's first in an UMSL uniform.
Kamryn Ealey assisted on the goal.
However, Northwest Missouri State responded just three minutes later with a goal by Ekaterina Theoharidis to make it a 1-1 game.
In the 31
st minute, Lucia Fernandez made it 2-1 for the Bearcats, scoring from the left side of the 18-yard box. Like the Theoharidis goal, Fernandez kept her shot low and scored center.
The Tritons stormed back in the second half with a
Jada Holloman brace in less than a minute. The senior's first goal came in the 63
rd minute from the left side of the six-yard box on a low shot.
Emily Bloomfield had the assist.
52 seconds later Holloman scored a stunner from the midfield, rifling the shot into the top center of the goal.
Emma Ealey recorded the assist on Holloman's rocket.
UMSL outshot Northwest Missouri State 17-12 including 10-8 in shots on goal. The Tritons had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
UMSL hosts Newman University in its home opener on Thursday (Sept. 12) at 5 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
