JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team defeated Lincoln 69-51 for its tsecond straight win and snapped the Blue Tigers six-game winning streak at Jason Gymnasium in Jefferson City, Mo., on Thursday evening. The Tritons improve to 8-7, 6-2 GLVC while Lincoln drops to 12-4 and is 4-4 in the GLVC.
Lincoln entered Thursday night's contest averaging nearly 71 points per game and had been lighting up from the three-point line during its six-game winning streak shooting 42 percent (77-for-183) and had six straight games with double-digit made three's.
That wouldn't be the case on Thursday as UMSL's defense held them 20 points below their season scoring average and held them to 23 percent (7-for-31) from beyond the arc.
The Tritons jumped out to an early lead only to see Lincoln rally with a 7-0 run to take its only lead of the night at 19-15 after two free throws from Matthieu Biembongo with 7:50 remaining in the opening half.
UMSL was unfazed countering with a 10-2 run to retake the lead for good after a three-pointer from
KC Udolisa.
Emanuel Prospere II provided the spark scoring the first six points of that run.
The Blue Tigers hung around in the game thanks to its rebounding on the offensive end turning 10 offensive boards into eight second chance points to cut the Triton lead to 29-27 at the break.
UMSL scored the first five points to open the second half to extend its lead to seven after a dunk from
Troy Glover II.
Lincoln got back-to-back threes from Mikey West to pull within 36-33 but wouldn't get any closer as the Tritons went on a 26-9 run over the next 12 minutes to build a 62-45 lead after
Matt Enright hit a pull up jumper in the lane with 4:16 remaining.
The Blue Tigers got field goals from Malcolm Davis and West to pull within 12 but it wouldn't be enough as UMSL closed the game scoring seven of the final eight points to secure the 18-point victory.
The Tritons shot 51 percent (22-for-43) from the floor including 8-of-16 from three and shot 71 percent at the foul line. They outrebounded Lincoln 34-to-31 and outscored 24-to-22 in points in the paint.
Enright finished with a game-high 20 points while Prospere II added 19 points to lead UMSL. Prospere also had three assists, two rebounds and two steals.
The Blue Tigers were held to 31 percent (19-for-62) shooting in the contest including their 7-of-31 from three and shot 60 percent at the foul line. Franck Yetna led Lincoln with 16 poits while West added 11 points.
The Tritons continue their four-game road trip on Saturday traveling to Rolla, Mo., to take on 15th ranked Missouri S&T at 3 p.m. at Gibson Arena.
