Men’s Basketball Drops Hard Fought Battle at No. 15 S&T

ROLLA, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team rallied from a 12-point first half deficit before falling to No. 15 Missouri S&T in the final seconds 88-84 at Gibson Arena on Saturday afternoon in Rolla, Mo. The Tritons fall to 8-8, 6-3 GLVC while the Miners improve to 13-1, 7-0 GLVC.

Emanuel Prospere II led four UMSL players in double figures with a career-high 25 points while Matt Enright added 24 and Savon Wykle and Quenton Parker chipped in with 13 and 10 points respectively.

S&T came out of the gates hot opening the game with six straight points before the Tritons got on the board with a basket from Prospere

The Miners it seemed couldn't miss from the field hitting 9 of their first 12 shots from the field as they jumped out to a 28-18 lead after a three-pointer from Blaise Beauchamp.

UMSL rallied pulling to within 30-27 after a three-pointer from Enright but a 14-7 run by S&T gave them a 44-34 lead with 1:09 left in the half. The Tritons cut the lead to single digits on a driving layup Parker at the half.

The Tritons opened the second half on a 20-11 run and took its first lead of the contest on a layup from Parker with 12:13 remaining in the contest.

The two sides went back-and-forth over the final 12 minutes as there were six ties and nine lead changes.

UMSL led by as many as four at 62-58 after a dunk from Troy Glover II but the Miners answered on the other end getting a three from Lovell Williams to cut the lead to one.

The two sides continued to go back and forth as S&T held an 80-76 lead after two free throws from Ryan Sroka with 3:00 minutes remaining.

The Tritons got a bucket from Janeir Harris and two free throws from Wykle to knot the score at 80 0:41 later.

The Miners retook the lead on the ensuing possession as Andrew Young got a free for a layup.

Prospere tied the game at 82 with a jumper in the paint but an Alex Benassi layup gave S&T the lead back with less than a minute to play.
Wykle hit two more free throws with 27.2 remaining to even the score at 84.

The Miners held for the final shot. Williams drove to the basket and pulled up for a jumper with 0:05 left but Wykle blocked it and the ball went out of bounds to S&T. The Miners scored off the inbounds play with 1.9 left to retake the lead and then after a turnover, Williams sank two free throws with 0:00.6 left to seal the win.

UMSL shot 50 percent (29-for-58) from the floor in the contest including 5-of-15 from three and 81 percent at the foul line. It was outrebounded 32-to-29 by S&T and outscored 14-6 in second chance points.

The Miners shot 56 percent (33-for-64) from the field in the game, were 7-of-18 from three and shot 78 percent (15-for-19) at the foul line. Young and Williams had 20 points apiece to lead S&T while Sroka and Beauchamp added 13 each.

The Tritons continue their four-game road trip on Monday traveling to Quincy, Ill., to take on the Hawks at 6 p.m. at Pepsi Arena.
