ST. LOUIS – Maddie Clark's goal in the 19th minute proved to be the difference in the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team 1-0 win over McKendree on Friday evening at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons improve to 6-2-2, 5-0-2 GLVC while the Bearcats fall to 6-1-4, 6-1-1 GLVC.
Clark was in the right place at the right time for her first goal of the season.
Josie Maddox sent a ball across the face of the goal from the endline.
Ella Anselm and Peyton Baker went for it, sending the ball ricocheting towards Clark at the top of the box. Clark sent a rocket into the top netting for her first goal as a Triton, putting UMSL up 1-0.
Anselm had a pair of chances in the second half forcing Bearcats goalkeeper Peyton Baker to make two saves to her left to keep the score 1-0.
Rylee Griffith preserved the 1-0 lead making a diving stop late in the game on a McKendree free kick from about 25 yards out after a foul on
Taylor Martin.
UMSL outshot the Bearcats 18-12 with six of its shots on net. Anselm led the Tritons with six shots, three of which were on net. Clark was the next closest Triton with four, hers on net was the game deciding goal.
Griffith secured her fifth shutout of the season, making four saves in the contest.
UMSL finishes its home stand with a Sunday afternoon match up against Illinois-Springfield (2-6-3, 1-5-2 GLVC) at noon at Don Dallas Field.
