ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team had its seven-game unbeaten streak snapped with a tough 1-0 loss to Illinois Springfield on Sunday afternoon at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons drop to 6-3-2, 5-1-2 GLVC while the Prairie Stars improve to 3-6-3, 2-5-2 GLVC.
The Prairie Stars scored their lone goal in the 61
st minute on a penalty kick. Mallory Herber stepped up to take it after the referee awarded the kick due to foul at the edge of the penalty box.
Rylee Griffith guessed right but couldn't stop Herber's missile to the top netting.
Griffith came up big early, getting her hand on Rachel Riney's volley to tip the ball over the net and keep the score 0-0 in the 23
rd minute.
Avery Hesseldenz nearly tied to for the Tritons in the 79
th minute, creating space for herself in the 18-yard box and forcing Gigi Yurevich to make a save at the bottom left.
Rachel Skyberg led the Tritons with three shots while
Aubree Wallace placed both her shots on frame.
UMSL outshot the Prairie Stars 21-7 including 7-4 in shots on goal.
The Tritons head back out on the road next weekend, traveling to Indianapolis to take on the Greyhounds of UIndy on Friday (Oct. 17) at 4 p.m. from Key Stadium.
