ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St Louis women's soccer team beat Upper Iowa 3-0 at Don Dallas Field on Friday afternoon to clinch a place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. This is the third consecutive game the Tritons have won 3-0. With the win, the Tritons improve to 9-3-2, 8-1-2 GLVC while the Peacocks fall to 3-10-2, 1-9-1 GLVC.
Aubree Wallace opened the scoring for UMSL, redirecting a
Karley Kinzinger cross back to the near post to give the Tritons the lead in the 18
th minute. It was Wallace's first goal of the season.
Julie Steiger came up big for the Tritons in the 33
rd minute, clearing Eve Russell's shot at the goal line to preserve the 1-0 lead.
In the 38
th minute,
Olivia Lautz doubled UMSL's lead with her first goal of her collegiate career. Steiger sent a cross into the box and Lautz knocked it home into the top netting.
The Tritons third tally came in the 56
th minute.
Julia Lammert started the play, sending a cross into the box that
Natalie Heib sent far post where
Danni Cotter was making a run. Cotter redirected the ball into the net, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career.
UMSL goalkeepers
Rylee Griffith and
Allysa Wolf combined for a shut out in the game.
The Tritons outshot Upper Iowa 18-4 in the contest including 8-2 in shots on goal.
UMSL faces Quincy on Sunday (Oct.26) at 12 p.m. to close out the home portion of their regular season schedule. The team will celebrate Senior Day at the conclusion of the match.
