Jackson’s Career Game Leads Tritons To Four Set Win Over Saints

Jackson had a career-high 24 kills while hitting .548 in the match.

ST. LOUIS – University of Missouri-St. Louis middle blocker Iyannah Jackson had a career day in the 3-1 win over Maryville on Saturday afternoon at the Mark Twain Building. The Tritons improve to 18-4, 8-0 GLVC while the Saints fall to 11-10, 4-3 GLVC.

Jackson had a career-high of 24 kills against one error in 42 attempts and hit .548 for the match. She also added one solo block and three assisted blocks for a total of 26.5 points. Jackson had 15 kills through the first two sets and hit .681 through the first two sets. She added five more in set three and finished with four in the final stanza.

Joining Jackson in double figures were Alayna Santel with 18 kills while Maggie Johnson contributed 16 kills. The 73 kills for UMSL are a season high.

Caitlin Bishop continued her impressive weekend finishing with 64 assists to average 16 assists per set and Skylar Weaver finished with 27 assists.

The Tritons hit .432 in the opening frame recording 20 kills against one error in 44 swings on their way to a 25-17 victory.

UMSL continues its hot hitting in the second stanza with 19 kills against four errors in 37 chances as it won 25-19 to take the commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

Maryville rallied in the third set using a 9-0 run turning a 5-4 deficit into a 13-5 lead. It would be a lead it wouldn't relinquish as it won 25-20 to extend the match. The Saints hit .208 in the stanza while holding the Tritons to a .098 hitting percentage.

UMSL led 11-10 in set four but finished with a flourish outscoring Maryville 14-5 the rest of the way to pull away for the 25-15 victory. Johnson and Santel combined for 12 kills in the frame to lead the Tritons.

Maryville finished the match hitting .232 with 46 kills against 11 errors in 151 attempts and were led by Ella Brinkman with 12 kills. Taylor Reynolds handed out 22 assists and Olivia Klump finished with 24 assists. Lily Brown and Leslie Longanbach had four blocks each.

UMSL heads to Indianapolis next Friday next Friday (Oct. 31) to begin its final road trip of the regular season against UIndy at 5 p.m. (CDT) at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.
