ST. LOUIS – In a battle for the final spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament on Sunday at Don Dallas Field the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought contest to Quincy 1-0. The Tritons dropped back to .500 at 5-5-5, 4-4-4 in the GLVC while the Hawks improved to 8-5-2, 6-5-1 GLVC.
Quincy moves into a tie for seventh place with Maryville at 19 points and are three points ahead of UMSL for the final playoff spot. The Tritons sit ninth heading into the final weekend of league play.
The Hawks scored the only goal of the contest in the 13th minute as Ismael Allimadi slid a pass through UMSL's back line and Leo Cann ran onto it and beat 
Jack Franklin for the game-winner.
The Tritons doubled up Quincy in shots in the second half outshooting them 14-6 but could only put two on frame.
UMSL had a great chance in the 62nd minute as 
Roman Ryabchenko tried to score off a diving header but his shot went just wide of the left post for a goal kick.
The Tritons had another chance 5:30 minutes later as Carlos Moreno Henao committed a foul 22 yards from goal setting up a free kick. 
Kyler Sorber sent his free kick towards the upper right corner but Jake Offerman got over to tip the ball over the bar and out for a corner kick.
Max Matarelli had an attempt later in the game that sailed wide for a goal kick.
UMSL outshot the Hawks 21-10 in the contest but Quincy had a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. Matarelli led the Tritons with four shots off the bench while 
Mario Garcia added three.
UMSL honored its four seniors: Sorber, 
Michael Quinn, 
Colton Milosch and 
Pablo Nodar after Sunday's contest.
The Tritons return to the pitch this Friday (Oct. 31) traveling to Kirksville, Mo., to face Truman State at 12 p.m. at Bulldog Soccer Park.
