ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team picked up a 2-1 nonconference win over Christian Brothers on Friday afternoon at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons even their overall record at 2-2-4 while the Buccaneers drop to 5-2-1.
Colton Milosch and
Melo Mensah scored goals for the Tritons.
Milosch opened the scoring in 17
th minute on a recycled ball in.
Michael Quinn found Mensah who served the ball to Milosch unguarded in the center of the box. Milosch made no mistake with the pass, firing it into the top left side to put UMSL up 1-0.
Mensah added a goal to his assist in the 55
th minute when
Connor Lynd played a perfect through ball along the right side. Mensah ran onto it, taking it deep into the box before sending the ball into the left side netting on a tough angle shot to double the Tritons lead.
Christian Brothers answered in the 62
nd minute when Olivier van der Tuin made no mistake on finishing a through ball from Juan Minguez Malonda. In one on one with
Will Winkler, van der Tuin put it home to cut the Triton lead in half.
Winkler made two saves in his first collegiate start, picking up his first win.
UMSL had six shots with three on goal. Mensah led the Tritons with three shots.
Kyler Sorber had two with one on net.
UMSL returns to action on Sunday to face Maryville (4-4-1, 3-3 GLVC) in the Battle of St. Louis. Kickoff is at 2:30pm at the Maryville Soccer Field.
