Women’s Soccer Earns Share Of GLVC Regular Season Title; Will Be No. 1 Seed In GLVC Tournament

LIBERTY, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team clinched a share of the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season title and earned the number one seed in the GLVC Tournament with a 7-0 win at William Jewell on Sunday afternoon in Liberty, Mo.

The Tritons improve to 12-3-2, 11-1-2 GLVC while the Cardinals finish their season with a record of 2-11-4, 2-9-3 GLVC.

With McKendree's tie at Quincy on Sunday afternoon, UMSL earns the top spot courtesy of its 1-0 win over the Bearcats on Oct. 10. The GLVC Tournament starts on November 9 with the Tritons hosting Missouri S&T on Don Dallas Field at 12 p.m.

UMSL got the board first in the 11th minute. Maddie Clark was driving towards goal and was held by a defender resulting in a penalty kick. Gwen Maggard took the kick and was successful for her fourth goal of the season. The Tritons got a second penalty kick goal in the 33rd minute. Natalie Heib was brought down from behind in the box and Maggard again converted.

Avery Hesseldenz scored her first goal of the season in the 36th minute heading home a cross from inside the six-yard box.

Natalie Scott made it 4-0 with her third goal of the season in the 63rd minute with an assist from Aubree Wallace.

Hesseldenz scored her second goal of the contest in the 73rd minute converting a penalty.

Olivia Lautz and Danni Cotter rounded out the scoring as Lautz scored her second of the season in the 84th minute and Cotter followed with her first goal of the season in the 87th minute.

UMSL outshot William Jewell 29-2 in the contest including 17-1 in shots on goal. Maggard and Hesseldenz had two goals apiece while Rylee Griffith and Allysa Wolf combined for the shutout.
