ST. LOUIS -- The No. 1 seeded University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team fell 1-0 to No.8 seeded Missouri S&T in the GLVC Quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons are now 12-4-2 while the Miners are 9-6-3.
Adriana Benassi broke through in the 72
nd minute, when Anastasia Barcom found her open on the left wing. Benassi took on three UMSL defenders, creating a fraction of space at the top of the box and sending her shot that
Rylee Griffith got a piece of but went into the top right corner for the game's only goal.
The Tritons had their chances to equalize, including a
Karley Kinzinger shot that went off the crossbar in the 88
th minute that would have tied the game.
Griffith had four saves, including one on Benassi in the 73
rd minute where she made a full extension dive to her left, getting a hand on the ball to push it wide and keep UMSL in the game.
The Tritons had 13 shots in the game with five on frame.
Rachel Skyberg led UMSL with four shots and two on frame. Kinzinger was second with three shots in the contest.
The Tritons will find out on Monday, Nov. 17 if they'll receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament during the Selection Show on NCAA.com at 5:30 p.m. (CST).
