ELKHART, Ind. – Justice Beard finished second in the 1,000 free for the highest finish of the day for the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's and women's swimming on the second day of the GLVC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Elkhart Aquatic Center in Elkhart, Ind.
The Triton women are in fifth place with 236 points after the second day of competition and trail Lewis by one point for fourth place while the Triton men are sixth overall with 189 points and trail Missouri S&T for fifth by 42 points.
Beard picked up an automatic qualifying time for nationals in the 1,000 with her time of 9:53.87 to earn 28 points for the team. She earned second team All-GLVC honors for her finish.
Isabella Gruidl finished 19th in the event with a time of 10:49.93 and earned six points.
Audrey Lantz finished fourth in the women's 50-yard freestyle with a "B" standard time of 23.22 seconds.
Kate Nelson came in fifth in the "B" final of the 50 free at 23.60 while
Madison Bottorff took fifth in the "C" final (24.34) and
Macy Ganshert was sixth in the "C" final (24.52).
Romina Itzkovich finished fourth in the "C" final of the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.40).
UMSL's 200-yard medley relay team of
Ella Lantz,
Cheyanne Godleski, A. Lantz and Nelson came in fourth (1:43.30) earning 52 points while the second team of Gruidl,
Ashleigh Baros, Ganshert and Bottorff finished 14th (1:49.52) and scored 26 points.
For the men,
Hendrik Bechtel had the top finish taking 12th in the 1,000 free (9:28.94) while
Carson Ring was 20th (9:40.00). Bechtel picked up 15 points and Ring secured five points.
The Tritons had three swimmers compete in the finals of the 200 IM.
Aaron Wicklund won the "C" final of the event and picked up a "B" standard time of 1:49.29 while
Mattia Nardi was fifth in the "C" final at 1:50.59.
Conley Savage took eighth in the "B" final at 1:51.16. The three swimmers picked up 24 points.
Lathan Parks and
David Reynolds finished third and fourth in the "C" final of the 50 free with times of 20.43 and 20.49 respectively scoring 11 points for the team.
UMSL's 200 medley relay team of
Ryan Conner,
Landon Hanesworth, Savage and Reynolds finished sixth at 1:29.56 while the foursome of
Kaleb Suitor,
Dylan Bonnett, Parks and
Joan Cortadellas Llubera finished 17th at 1:31.91. The Tritons earned 66 points in the relay.
Thursday's competition at the Elkhart Aquatic Center will feature the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free and 400-medley relay. The morning session will be preliminary rounds in the 100 fly, 400 IM and 200 free. The evening session consists of the finals of those events and includes the finals of the 400-medley relay. Prelim action begins at 9 a.m. (CST) with the finals session scheduled to get underway at 4:30 p.m. (CST).
