EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team won its final three singles matches to defeat Southern Indiana 5-2 in its spring opener on Saturday at the Evansville Tennis Center in Evansville, Ind. The Tritons improve to 3-0 while the Screaming Eagles drop to 0-3.
USI won the number three doubles match as its team of Rylie Wilkison and Abigail Myers defeated
Giuliana Cunza and
Lauren Sweeney 6-4. UMSL won the next two doubles matches as
Anna Favaron and
Morgan Lint won at number two doubles defeating Antonia Ferraini and Madison Windham 6-4 while its number one team of
Hannah Tse and
Aleksandra Lopez defeated Sofia Davidoff and Anais Negrail in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-4) to clinch the first point of the match.
The Screaming Eagles got wins in two of the first three singles contests to even the match at 2-2 but the Tritons regained the lead with Sweeney's win over Myers in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles contest and clinched the victory as Lint swept Windham 6-3, 6-2 at number four singles. Cunza won her match over Wilkison in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in number five singles play.
UMSL returns to the courts on Sunday (March 9) hosting Purdue Northwest at 10 a.m., at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
