ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team returned to the courts on Sunday dropping a hard-fought match to No. 20 Northwest Missouri State 4-2 on Sunday. The Tritons drop to 3-1 while the Bearcats improve to 2-2.
NWMSU won all three doubles contests to win the opening point of the match as its number one team of Camilla Franzin and Marielena Muench defeated
Hannah Tse and
Aleksandra Lopez 6-4. UMSL's number two doubles team of
Morgan Lint and
Anna Favaron fell to Alva Norberg and Anne Carvalho Pereira 6-3 and the number three team of
Giuliana Cunza and
Lauren Sweeney lost to Miru Nonaka and Polina Gontaryk 7-6.
The Tritons tied the match at one as Tse won the number singles bout against Muench in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. The Bearcats got wins at No. 2 singles as Gontaryk beat Lopez 6-2, 6-4, Norberg defeated Favaron 7-6, 6-1 at number three singles and Nonaka clinched the win for Northwest with her 6-0, 6-1 victory over Sweeney. Lint rallied after dropping the first set to Franzin to win in a third set tie break 2-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-6). The number five singles match between Cunza and Carvalho Pereira went unfinished. Carvalho Pereira won the first set 7-6 and the second set was tied 2-2 when the match was called.
The Tritons are back in action next Sunday (March 9) hosting Purdue Northwest at 10 a.m. at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
